OMC Chaplains honored at annual banquet

Ozarks Medical Center Volunteer Chaplains were honored during an annual banquet held in early October. During the event, Marie Whiteside was named Chaplain of the Year for 2014. The award honored Whiteside for her unselfish dedication to OMC's Volunteer Chaplain Association and for her commitment to excellence. In addition to volunteering at OMC, Whiteside also makes visits to area nursing homes in her commitment to provide spiritual care to the community. In the first nine months of 2014 volunteer chaplains have visited with 5,963 patients, 2,382 family members and volunteered 1,920 hours. They average more than seven hours of patient visits each day. In addition to making daily rounds with patients, the chaplains have responded to patient and family needs in all departments at all times. They provide counseling, prayer and sit with critically ill patients. The Chaplains also distribute treats on Valentine's Day and Good Friday and sing Christmas carols during the holidays. Each year, they conduct a National Day of Prayer Service. Currently, OMC has 16 active volunteer chaplains who visit patients at OMC seven days a week and are on call 24 hours a day.
