Ozarks Medical Center Bariatric Program to Present the ASMBS Foundation’s 2018 Walk from Obesity

WEST PLAINS, Mo. — Join us as we take steps to fight obesity at the 2018 Walk from Obesity, presented by Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) Bariatric (Weight Loss Surgery) Program, and benefiting the American Society For Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Foundation.

The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Ozarks Medical Parkway, 1211 Porter Wagoner Boulevard, West Plains. This event will be held rain or shine. Check-in time and onsite registration is 4–5 p.m., and the walk begins at 5 p.m. This is a “set your own pace” event. Walk as much or as little as you want.

Online registration is $25 (https://fundraise.asmbsfoundation.org), and will be available until Friday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. Those who register online will automatically receive their own online fundraising page. While raising money for this cause, you may win prizes, receive achievement badges on your online page, and a plaque will be awarded to the top fundraising individual and top fundraising team at the Walk.

In the United States, more than 93 million individuals are effected by obesity. The ASMBS Foundation’s Walk from Obesity raises awareness and provides educational information regarding prevention and treatment. The Walk is also able to raise funds to support important obesity and bariatric surgery research, educational programs, and access to quality care and treatment initiatives.

All registrations include an official Walk from Obesity t-shirt, which can be picked up at the walk. Sizes are available on a first come, first serve basis. Children under the age of 12 are FREE, with a registered parent or guardian. There will be free coloring books and child sized t-shirts available, however, quantities are limited and will be handed out on a first come, first serve basis.

Children should be registered using the paper registration form, which may be accessed in the "Resources" section after online registration is completed. There will also be an optional coloring contest and the winner will receive a prize at the Walk. Please note: If you wish for your child to be entered into the coloring contest, please print and complete the coloring form prior to the event.

Opportunities exist to be a local sponsor. Please contact the office of Dr. Magdy Guirgius at 417-256-1774, or Christina Hardman at christina.hardman@ozarksmedicalcenter.com, for more information or if you have any questions.
