WEST PLAINS, Mo – Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) would like to congratulate the fourth Nurse Residency Cohort on their completion of the OMC Nurse Residency program. Five graduates come from the Arkansas Rural Nursing Education Consortium (ARNEC) out of Melbourne and one from Texas County Technical College (TCTC) in Houston. ARNEC graduates are James Foster, Wiseman, Ark.; Kandis Williams, West Plains; Jennifer Foster, West Plains; MaKayla Smithee, Thayer; and Alicia Hicks, Myrtle. TCTC graduate is Sarah West, Winona;

OMC’s Nurse Residency Program begins in January and June of each year. It is a 12-week program that assists recent graduates in the transition from nursing school into their new roles. Similar to physician residency programs, the intent is to continue education, mentoring, and support to enable new nurses to become competent practitioners.

Throughout the program, each nurse graduate has spent time in approximately 28 areas of the hospital, working alongside OMC Coworkers. The goal is to find the perfect fit by the end of the 12 weeks depending on job openings at OMC. During their tenure, Nurse Residents are full-time employees with applicable salary and benefits.

“Our goal with the nurse residency program is to train nurses to serve our community compassionately,” Karlee Marvin, Nurse Residency Coordinator said. “and bridge the gap between education and successful clinical practice.”

OMC is currently accepting applications for the June Cohort, with a deadline to apply by April 15. To be eligible, applicants must have completed an RN program within six months and have current RN licensure, preferred or scheduled, with successful completion of the NCLEX within 90 days.
