WEST PLAINS, Mo – R. Gideon Morrison, M.D., Board Certified Pathologist, at Ozarks Medical Center (OMC) Pathology has been selected as one of 417 Magazine’s annual Top Doctors for 2018. Recipient physicians are selected by their peers in the local medical community who vote for them in the 417 Magazine Top Doctors survey.

“This list is a service to our readers, giving them a doctor’s perspective regarding the top doctors in dozens of specialty areas,” states 417 Magazine. “It also gives healthcare seekers a place to see doctors highlighted for achievement and reputation, and can be a great tool for finding the right doctors for their needs.” Since 1998, 417 Magazine has been the life-enrichment magazine of southwest Missouri.

As a Pathologist, Dr. Morrison specializes in the general study of disease and its processes as well as the specific diagnosis of disease, since pathologists investigate the clues to diseases and injuries through the examination of organs, tissues, body fluids, cells, and molecules.

A pathologist will also examine a tissue biopsy to determine whether it is benign or malignant, and shares that information with your primary care doctor. Pathologists also perform autopsies, which not only determine the person’s cause of death, but may also discover more information about the genetic progression of a disease.

Dr. Morrison received his medical degree from the University of Missouri. He completed his internship and residency at University of Missouri, also. Dr. Morrison is board certified by the College of American Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology. Dr. Morrison practices at OMC Pathology located at 1100 Kentucky Avenue, West Plains.

Ozarks Medical Center is a system of care encompassing eight primary care and 16 specialty clinics, along with complete rehabilitation, behavioral healthcare and home care services. While the 114-bed acute care hospital cares for more than 5,400 admissions, the entire medical system has more than 364,000 patient visits annually in South Central Missouri and Northern Arkansas.
