Ozarks Medical Center's Cancer Treatment Center was designed with patients' comfort and safety in mind, and is equipped to provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients in south central Missouri and north central Arkansas. The state-of-the-art facility features a linear accelerator for radiation treatment, as well as chemotherapy and hematology services. Located inside the Shaw Medical Building, OMC is able to offer its patients the same treatment they can receive in progressive cancer treatment centers across the country. The Cancer Treatment Center has its own tumor registry and supports cancer research projects to ensure it is offering patients leading edge cancer treatment options. This service is under the direction of Board-Certified Radiation Oncologist Garry Brown, DO. The Radiation Department also is staffed by a radiation therapy dosimetrist/registered radiation technologist, a registered radiation technologist and a medical physicist. Individualized treatment planning begins with a CT radiotherapy planning or an X-ray simulation, followed by two-dimensional or three-dimensional computer planning. Treatment delivered by the linear accelerator allows radiation to reach the cancerous tumor while preventing damage to the healthy surrounding tissue.
Charles Morgan, MD, a board-certified medical oncologist/hematologist, serves as medical director for the Cancer Treatment Center. Under his direction, chemotherapy nurses, certified by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), administer the latest in cancer-fighting chemotherapy drugs and other supportive medications. The chemotherapy suite offers seven chemotherapy stations plus two climate-controlled infusion rooms for increased patient comfort.
OMC employs a tumor registrar who records all malignant pathologies diagnosed at the medical center. This data is reviewed at a tumor conference held every two weeks at OMC and is then submitted to the State of Missouri Department of Health and Statistics. Dr. Charles Morgan is a member of Clinical Research of the Ozarks (CRO), a team of physicians who define and manage treatment of tumors and participate in protocols that support national research. |
