PATIENT ROOMS
 
   
16 Private Patient Rooms, including 2 major medical trauma rooms, are designed to provide adequate space to comfortably treat the more than 20,000 patients who seek care from OMC's Emergency Department each year.
 
   
Each room has a state-of-the-art cardiac monitoring system by Nihon Kohden. The portable cardiac monitoring system can stay with the patient and continues recording, even if the patient is moved to a different location.
 
   
Each room has 12-lead EKG capabilities, which measures the electrical activity of the heartbeat. The 12-lead EKG can quickly confirm a heart attack and speed a patient’s way to the cath lab where they can receive life-saving interventional cardiology care.
 
   
Each room has access to Portable Imaging Equipment, which allows technologists to work faster and radiologists to preview images immediately at the patient's bedside.
 
   
Two of the patient rooms are negative pressure. This means that, if needed, the systems can be activiated to prevent contaminated air in the rooms from reaching other parts of the hospital or ED, preventing cross contamination.
 
   
Each room has a television and telephone to make the patient and their family more comfortable.
   
  WAITING AREA
 
   
When entering the Emergency Department, patients will be greeted by a clinician, who can quickly assess their condition.
 
   
There are two waiting areas in the main lobby. One is a designated quiet area and the other has a television.
 
   
Registration will be done primarily at the bedside in private patient rooms. However, there also is a private room adjacent to the lobby for admissions and registration purposes.
   
  NURSES STATION
 
   
The nurses station is centrally located to give the medical staff the ability to easily monitor patients and to have quick access to patient rooms.
 
   
A state-of-the-art tracking system gives the medical staff immediate access to pertinent information about the patient's stay, such as when a patient was admitted, who their doctor is and when they were last seen by a caregiver.
   
  PATIENT CARE
 
   
The new Emergency Department offers direct access to the OMC Labratory, which has a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week staff that includes degreed medical technologists who can perform almost any lab testing in house.
 
   
A patient nutrition station can provide food and beverages for Emergency Department patients.
 
   
A private patient consult room is available for families, who may be in need of a private area to speak with a physician.
 
   
A decontaminiation area can be accessed from the exterior of the hospital to keep harmful contaminants out of the hospital. The decontamination room includes several different kinds of showers to accomodate the different decontamination needs of various chemicals.
