WEST PLAINS — Lace up your running shoes and get ready for the 2009 Ozarks Medical Center Fun Run on Thursday, April 30. The event is for all ages and includes a 5K run; a 1.5 mile walk/run; and a Walk, Stroll, Crawl, Any-Way-You-Can-Finish race for ages 6 and younger.

All profits from Fun Run 2009 will benefit patients at the OMC Cancer Treatment Center.

All race events begin at 6:30 p.m. at the OMC Parkway Classroom, next to Ramey Foods and Family Dollar. Prior to the race, beginning at 5:45 p.m., OMC Rehabilitation Services will host a free stretch clinic to help participants warm up for their event. The clinic, open to all participants, will be conducted by OMC physical therapists in the Parkway Classroom.

Pre-registration entry fees for children 15 and younger are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the race. Adult registration is $15 in advance and $20 the day of the race. There also is a family registration fee of $40 in advance and $50 the day of the race. Family registration is designated for immediate family members only.

Participants must pre-register by April 14 to be guaranteed to receive an event t-shirt. The remaining t-shirts will be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis, based on registration date and time. Pre-registration forms are available at the OMC Public Relations office in the Parkway Shopping Center and online at www.ozarksmedicalcenter.com. Participants also can pre-register after April 14 or can register the day of the event, beginning at 5 p.m., in the OMC Parkway Classroom, but will not be guaranteed to receive an event t-shirt.

In the 5K run, trophies will be awarded to the top five female and the top five male finishers. Three medals will be awarded in each age division. Age divisions for the 5K event include: 9 and younger; 10-12; 13-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; and 50 and older.

The 1.5 mile walk/run is a non-competitive event. There also will be trophies and prizes awarded for the children’s event. The children’s race is open to anyone 6 years of age and younger.

In addition to individual prizes and trophies, the athletic department of the school with the most students completing their event will receive $250. Student participants should list their school on the registration form.

West Plains High School Cross Country Coaching staff will conduct the race and tabulate scores.
