Sundeep S. Lal, MD, a board-certified pain management specialist, has joined the Ozarks Medical Center staff. Lal’s practice is located at the OMC Pain Management Center at 1100 Kentucky Avenue in West Plains.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Lal to OMC,” said OMC President and CEO David Zechman. “His skills and experience in pain management will be a tremendous addition to the OMC medical staff and will expand the services we provide to the area communities.”

Lal comes to West Plains from Little Rock, Ark., where he has been in private practice for the past six years. He was previously an interventional pain specialist with an orthopedic group in Little Rock, Ark. Lal also is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Lal is a diplomate of the American Board of Pain Management and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Pain management. He is a member of the American Society for Interventional Pain Physicians; the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation; the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; the Association of Academic Physiatrists and the American Medical Association.

Lal completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and did his fellowship in interventional pain in Little Rock, Ark. Prior to moving to the US 10 years ago, Lal was an orthopedic surgeon in the United Kingdom and India.

He is trained and certified in chronic wound management and hyperbaric medicine, which is is the medical use of oxygen at a level higher than atmospheric pressure.

“As a pain management specialist, I look forward to working with patients on the prevention, evaluation and treatment of pain,” Lal said. “There are a variety of pain management programs, including advanced options like implantable treatment modalities, neuro-ablation (nerve block) and other programs, which can greatly improve the quality of life for patients with chronic and severe pain.”

His emphasis is on optimum diagnosis and the rationalization of treatment methods on an individual to individual basis, having a personalized treatment plan for each patient.

"Regular monitoring of pain therapies is necessary because the therapeutic benefits of treatments can change. Patient response to pain can be affected by changes in the underlying pain condition, coexisting disease, or in psychological or social circumstances,” he said.

Lal said he encourages his patients to “think positive to be pain-free and happy.”

“Each one of us is stronger than we may think or know. It is a partnership between you the patient and your physician and together we cannot fail”.
