Gainesville Medical Clinic to host open house for nurse practitioner Madalyn Hicks
Event to include blood pressure testing, blood sugar screens, clinic tours
GAINESVILLE — Ozarks Medical Center’s Gainesville Medical Clinic will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 15 in honor of Family Nurse Practitioner Madalyn Hicks, a full-time medical provider at the clinic.
The Open House will be held at the clinic, located at 404 West Highway 160 in Gainesville. The event will include free blood pressure testing, blood sugar screens and tours of the clinic.
“We invite the community to take this opportunity to meet Madalyn and to see first hand the quality care available at the Gainesville Medical Clinic,” said OMC Vice President of Clinical Support Services Edward Henegar, DO, who also is a physician at the Gainesville clinic.
Hicks has more than 30 years of medical experience. She first began working at OMC in 1975 as a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She became a registered nurse in 1979 and worked at OMC until 1990. For the next 15 years, she was employed as the school nurse for the West Plains R-7 School District while her son, Ross, was a student. After her son graduated, Hicks returned to school and earned her Masters of Science degree to become a family nurse practitioner. She said after earning her degree she knew she wanted to return to OMC.
At the clinic, Hicks provides primary medical care in a family practice setting. She works with patients to meet basic health care and wellness needs, coordinate preventative care screenings and manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure
“I’m really enjoying my new role at the Gainesville Medical Clinic,” Hicks said. “This community is a wonderful place to work. It has been great to meet the people of Gainesville and get to see them and treat them on an ongoing basis.”
Hicks is board certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She has been published in the Journal of Advanced Nursing and has a second article that will be published in the Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in May.
Also at the Gainesville Medical Clinic is Aaron Newton, MD. Newton said he is pleased to have the opportunity to supervise Hicks as an extension of his practice.
Hicks sees patients Monday through Thursday at the Gainesville Medical Clinic. The clinic’s normal business hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. In addition to primary medical care, the clinic also offers physical, occupational, massage and speech therapies through OMC Rehabilitation Services.
