West Plains Bank is the sponsor of The Vikki McGee Band for OMC’s Eighth Annual Blue Jean Ball. The band is slated to hit the stage at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, September 24 at the OMC Foundation’s signature event. Vikki McGee has been entertaining audiences her entire life. Vikki is an extremely versatile singer, singing Rock, Pop, Country, R&B, Jazz, and Gospel. Her favorite is R&B with a little South Louisiana flavor. Besides her versatility, one of the first things you notice about her is her big voice. She has been asked many times, “How does such a big voice come out of a little person?” She always replies, “It’s a Louisiana thing! We do everything large in Louisiana, from the food to the music, everything big.”

Born in Port Barre, a small town in South Louisiana, she grew up surrounded and influenced by the talent of legendary musicians such as Vikki’s Great Grandfather “Dean of Cajun Music” Dennis McGee; Great Uncle Gerry McGee-Singer/Songwriter and Guitarist for the Ventures; the legendary guitarist and entertainer, Ronnie Brumley; Ted Broussard, one of Louisiana’s greatest Guitarist; and Uncle Randy James, powerhouse acoustic man; are all strong musical influences. Many other entertainers have inspired her song writing and style of music: Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge, Bessie Smith, Eva Cassidy, Patsy Cline, Eric Clapton, Merle Haggard, Delbert McClinton, Otis Redding, and Ray Charles.

Vikki has performed with and led numerous bands such as Louisiana Fire, Uptown Express, and is currently leading her own. The Vikki McGee Band hail from Northeast Arkansas and perform at many local private parties and Festivals throughout the State of Arkansas.

Her talent is evident by her many accomplishments. While with Louisiana Fire, Vikki opened for Tanya Tucker, Little Texas, Restless Heart, Shenendoah, and Tracy Lawrence. She sang at the Country Tonight Show in Las Vegas. While with Ted Broussard & Uptown Express, Vikki was nominated for Best Female R&B Times Music Pole in Lafayette, LA. Vikki sang background vocals on various artists CD’S in Louisiana and Arkansas, including Zachary Richard a legendary Cajun/Zydeco artist. She sang various commercials, including ones for Hilton Hotels which was aired in the Southern States. Vikki has performed at many club venues, private parties, and headlined at festivals including the Legends of Louisiana (Alexandria, LA), Festival International (Lafayette, LA), River Fest (Little Rock, AR), and Blues Fest (Helena, AR), as well as, many others throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee, and Missouri.

Even though Vikki has a long list of accomplishments and stays very busy performing, she makes time in her life for several local projects that are extremely important to her. She has led a Praise and Worship Team, and the Elementary Children’s Youth Choir at Weiner United Methodist Church. She has produced and performed in Christmas Shows in Little Rock, AR, Hot Springs, AR., and Jonesboro, AR. Vikki has recorded two local Christmas CD’S , a Jazz/Blues CD and a live performance was recorded at The 2004 Cracklin Festival in her Hometown of Port Barre, Louisiana with some of Louisiana’s greatest including Ted Broussard, Randy James, and Charles Ventre.

Vikki took a break from the music business for a couple of years to regroup and concentrate on song writing. Her first solo CD as a songwriter/performing artist titled, “Never Knowing” is a blend of Rock, Country, and blues, everything that Vikki is made of. Other members of The Vikki McGee Band include Cindy Shepherd on keyboards; Sonny Campbell, Bass/Vocals; Christ Whitten, Lead Guitar; and Jacob Brumley on drums.
